But, today it hit me. I know what this all important (if only in my mind) entry is to be about: Wyatt.
My husband and I have 3 beautiful children. Wyatt is the middle one, and our oldest son. All 3 of our children are unique and special in their own way. I don't love one more than another. But, with each there are things that give them a place in my heart that is only for them.
I figure what better way to start "my blog" than to tell you about these 3 amazing children I have been blessed to call my own.
So today is about Wyatt. My sweet, smart, funny lil' Wyatt. Today is his 5th birthday. Or as he puts it, he is finally a "whole hand".
I love all of my kids so much, but my Wyatt holds a special place with me, maybe because his arrival into this world was a pretty rocky one.
Wyatt was born one month premature (not unheard of) and was still a whopping 7lbs 6oz. He was ready to be born in every way except his lungs. I saw him only briefly before he was whisked away. Within about 24 hours it was pretty clear to the doctors that he was getting weaker. To add to that, they told us that there were NO hospitals anyway near us equipped to take him that had room. So, day 2 of his life and he's being prepared to travel to Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. For those that don't know, that is a 3ish hour drive from our home.
We still didn't have a name picked out for him. My husband and I had gone back and forth but figured once we saw him we would know. Well, when he was first born, we thought we were going to name him Connor. But as the first hours rolled by and we saw him get sicker it wasn't fitting. He needed something stronger, something to tell the world he is a fighter and would survive. Wyatt. It's a name my husband had mentioned months before. I wasn't crazy about it. Until I saw my son fighting for his life and remembered what it means: little warrior.
We both knew, that was it. He was our little fighter, our little warrior. Our Wyatt. And we were right. A few weeks in the NICU in Santa Cruz and he was released to come home. Strong, healthy and ready to take on the world.
From the start Wyatt has been my snuggler. He has a smile that melts my heart. He is thoughtful and kind. Smart and meticulous. He likes things "in order" and thrives on his routine. Wyatt loves to hug, and be hugged. He is caring and sweet with me and adores his dad. It doesn't hurt that he and Daddy like the same toys! Legos! Hundreds and hundreds of legos! They build together and talk about "boy stuff".
When Wyatt was 2 and 1/2 he became a big brother, he loves being a big brother! It's his "job" to teach his little brother how to be...well, a little brother.
Wyatt has always been a builder. Like I said he likes things in order. He started on puzzles at an early age. He broke his femur right before his second birthday and his Grammy, my mother-in-law, bought him some puzzles he could work on in bed. Before long he was doing some pretty complex ones by himself.
Next was the Geotrax. It's a train track building system and this child would create the most elaborate, well planned out cities. Double and even triple decker tracks that ran smoothly and he was barely three!
Now it's Legos. He is so creative.
Wyatt just graduated from preschool and is chomping to move on to Kindergarten. He's reading small words, completing short math problems and is a creative artist.
I mentioned he can be "focused" and "orderly". Sometimes this comes with a challenging side. He can be one stubborn lil dude. I will just say he's tenacious. He can get something in his mind and it seems near impossible to refocus him. This can be hard when you are dealing with the emotions of a preschooler and the tenacity of an adult.
I wouldn't change a thing about him!
So, happy birthday to my son Wyatt. My sweet, stubborn, loving, witty, funny, smart, Wyatt!
You have blessed our lives!
Now, Elle and Maddox?
They are just as unique and special. I will tell you about them too but they each deserve their own day, their own "blog entry".
Until then....
